The letter ‘S’ - isn’t it beautiful?! Such an elegant letter, the way is swirls and curls on the page, also the start of so many meaningful words - including my name and star sign (a fierce and passionate Scorpio).
S is successful, sexy, super, serious, silly, seductive, sensuous, strong, stylish, stunning, sincere and special.
I want to celebrate the good, the bad and the sometimes sadness of the letter S - because as well as all those sensational words it leads, it can also bring us sorrow, solitude and stress - we all experience these feelings so I’m here to share them here with you.
According to the most recent editions of the Oxford English Dictionary, there are approximately 57,000 words that start with the letter S. This makes "S" one of the most prolific letters in the English language, with more words beginning with it than any other letter. We could be here a while!
Perhaps I should start with a little introduction, I’m Sam, Samantha, Sammy… I’m an auntie, sister, friend and daughter. I live in a beautiful Cotswolds Village in the Wiltshire countryside with my rescue dog Annie, a terrier full of her own brand of ‘Annietude’. I run a boutique travel PR agency and split my time between the countryside, London and wherever my travels take me. I’ll be sharing insights into the world of PR, some of the crazy happenings that go on behind the scenes and I’ll take you on tour with me; I’ll send postcards from my travels, and I’ll share musings from the countryside – all wrapped around stories to do with the letter S.
I’m new, I’m nervous and I’m hoping you’ll like what I have to say - I’ve written for work for so many years and this is a whole new outlet for me and one that I’m looking forward to exploring.
Let’s start with ‘Spooky’ – which seems apt as we are approaching the spookiest time of year with Halloween around the corner. Pumpkins are being carved and cauldrons are bubbling…
Spooky
[ spoo-kee ]
spook·i·er, spook·i·est.
eerie; scary.
(especially of horses) nervous; skittish.
I’ve always thought I have an element of white witch about me – I’m highly sensitive and intuitive and can completely spook myself out! I’ve had some strange premonitions and encounters – I remember being in New York for work around the time that Princess Charlotte was born – three days before her birth, I was convinced I’d read about it in the news and shared the story of her birth with my boss at the time – only to find out she wasn’t born or named until three days later…
But this spooky story relates to a visit to my cottage earlier this summer, I was working at my desk when I heard a knock on the front door I answered to be greeted by an elderly gypsy lady selling some linen – I didn’t have any cash on me to purchase her goods but she insisted she had to tell me something – and what she told me fully spooked me out – I had to sit down with a calming cup of tea (it would have been a stronger drink if it wasn’t before noon!) and write down what she told me.
She told me that five years ago, I wouldn’t have believed what I have managed to achieve – looking back, this was the time when I was super stressed at work and no longer enjoyed living full time in the city – fast forward five years and here I am, running my own business and enjoying a new life balance in the country surrounded by wonderful friends.
She told me not to worry about my nephew – who at the time was being quite difficult – she said he was extremely intelligent and will most likely be a barrister or similar – this I can well believe as his mother, my sister, is a lawyer and my nephew is turning into a super bright and engaging boy now that he is able to communicate better.
She knew some personal details that really shocked me, and she also knew that I am single, that I’d never had children, I’d had my share of heartbreak and that I’ve been guarding myself from any future heartbreak – but she did say that I would meet someone special in the near future – I’m putting that out there in the hope that one day, I might be able to erase the word ‘single’ from my bio…
Believe in the hocus pocus or not, I know I’m already loved and if that special someone does appear, I look forward to more stories to tell!
So please stay tuned, follow, like, subscribe, share – and tell me about your favourite S words.
Sam x

From one fierce and passionate to another - love this new part of your life Sammy. A long way from those ski holidays back when I was still a Swallow and we were hanging with Sarah. You have inspired me to view the new era of my life in a new light, with that Scorpio strength and the stalwartness you've reminded me I possess. And I love the letter S. Keep them coming Sam. x
As if you don't have enough strings to your bow! Love that you're pursuing yet another avenue to add to your many successes. What I find 'spooky' is that I was only mentioning you to my boss a few hours ago in relation to Switzerland and the hotel industry and the fact we might need to pick your brains soonish which will hopefully involve a long 'work lunch'! Congratulations Sam xx
